What’s on in winter?

Plenty! From outdoor ice skating in the city’s heart to a celebration of visual art and a warm blast of live music through June and July, the city is bursting with activity across winter. Along with events to entertain, inspire and educate, there are also opportunities to support others in the community this season.

The ever eclectic open-access Cabaret Fringe Festival returns to the city in June, with homegrown and national talent performing in a range of clubs, bars and venues across Adelaide. An annual festival celebrating the art form of cabaret, the Cabaret Fringe is proudly committed to providing independent creators and producers with a platform to develop their art.

Winter sees the world’s biggest cabaret festival roll into town with more than 380 artists in 245 performances over 16 incredible days and nights. Mixing big names with bright new stars, choose from classic or contemporary cabaret at a host of festival favourite venues and new hubs like The Famous Spiegletent at Adelaide Festival Centre and Thebarton Theatre.

Adelaide hosts Rounds 3 and 4 of this year’s UniSA Australian HPV Super Series, giving you two action-packed winter weekends to come along and watch community and school teams race Human Powered Vehicles around a closed controlled circuit at Victoria Park. Entry is free and racing starts at 10 am.

Swap your sneakers for skates at the family-friendly SkatingAt Festival in the city’s heart. Try out a spin or just stay upright on the world-class ice-skating rink before hitting the rides and enjoying entertainment, food and drink. Fun for all ages and abilities. From city pubs to wineries, markets to houseboats, check out more guitars in more places across Adelaide and SA with the 2019 Guitars in Bars. This is your opportunity to fall in love with seasoned professionals, discover emerging artists and hang out with some back-shed jammers. Adelaide’s Anime & Video Games Festival returns with another jam-packed weekend of non-stop fun. From the Indie Games Room to Artist Alley, SA’s largest cosplay competition, a cosplay parade, panel talks and anime screenings – there’s something for all interests.

NAIDOC in the Mall

The 2019 NAIDOC Week theme is, “Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let’s work together.” This year will be the third year that NAIDOC Week will be celebrated in Rundle Mall, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander banners alongside activities and art that promotes cultural awareness and pride. Join us on Tuesday 9 July from 10.30 am at Gawler Place Canopy, Rundle Mall.

Umbrella: Winter City Sounds showers the city with music!

12 – 28 July

This annual open-access festival brings to life everything it means to be a UNESCO City of Music. Heating up Adelaide with a 17-day program of over 350 live music events, Umbrella showers the city in music of every genre. See pop, punk, jazz, rock, hip-hop, folk, metal, world music and more performed at local venues big and small, indoors and out.
